| About Us |
The story of Camp Skyler is unique, yet simple. In 1983, we decided to take a canning class at a local community center in Denver, CO. We immediately fell in love with growing our own vegetables and the ability to process and preserve them for later use. At first, we put up pickles, tomatoes, carrots and other bounty from our garden. Having grown up in the city (Philadelphia, PA), with no space for a garden, we were not only interested in growing our own vegetables, but being able to store the vegetables for later use was a plus.
In 1983, we began working on a salsa
recipe. The recipe for our Pepper Jelly
evolved from that experimentation. As
the years passed, we offered our Pepper
Jelly to co-workers, friends and family
across the USA. They would ask where
they could purchase, borrow, or steal
another jar of the unique jelly.
Unfortunately, we usually had to explain
that we only made the jelly between
Thanksgiving and New Years and since we
never knew how many new people we would
introduce it to each year, we usually
never had a jar left over at the end of
the year.
After 5 years, we were making and
sending over 2000 jars annually all
around the world; China, India, South
America, the Caribbean and across the
United States. Generations have grown up
expecting and receiving, every year, the
gift from Camp Skyler. Friends and
family, who had been receiving the jelly
for years, introduced it to more and
more of their friends and family.
For our 20th anniversary, we decided to
produce and offer our special jelly to
the general public. No more limiting the
use of the jelly when sharing with their
family and guests. As a matter of fact,
several recipients of the jelly had
admitted to hiding their annual jar of
jelly in their homes, so it would be
available for BBQ during the summer. The
consistency and spread ability of the
jelly, made a wonderful glaze on all BBQ
foods. Now the jelly can be purchased
for any occasion, at any time of the
year, without the wait of 12 months for
another jar.
Where the Name Camp Skyler Came From
We decided on the name Camp Skyler when we purchased our home in Spring City, PA in 1992. Our home is not a camp, but because of the uniqueness of our property and the annual bonfire gatherings we throw for our family, friends and acquaintances, the Camp Skyler concept took shape. During the gatherings, guests are treated to a wonderful day at Camp Skyler. Guests ages vary from infants to seniors and everyone has fun listening to live music, clowns and pony rides, a paint ball target range, an after dark hayride and a 20'x20' bonfire, (usually ignited with a flaming arrow). Many people who come to the gathering develop lasting friendships, yet live in other areas of the country and only come together at the Camp Skyler annual gathering. Anyone who has ever tried a taste of the special jelly or an invitation to the annual gathering, have become "Campers" and Counselors of Camp Skyler.
About The Painting On Our Label
In 1997, Roberts father, Sid Sklar, a nationally known disabled artist, painted the scene, which is a view of a lake from the home of Robert's uncle in New Hampshire. The painting is titled "Shadows" and permission was given to use the image of the woods and lake as they wished for promoting the Camp Skyler tradition and its products. Even though it is costly to reproduce the image in its fullest form on (all to most) Camp Skyler products, the Skyler's feel the cost is not important if the inspiration of the painting can be recognized. The Skyler's have done this in appreciation to Sid Sklar for allowing the use of his painting as the corporate image of Camp Skyler
About The Torch
About The Torch
The torch logo on our label, web site, correspondence and merchandise is our corporate logo. The torch signifies "communication through illumination" in that through knowledge will come communication and the path of life will not be dark.
The souls of people, on their way to Earth-life, pass through a room full of lights; each takes a taper - often only a spark - to guide it in the dim country of this world. But some souls, by rare fortune, are detained longer - have time to grasp a handful of tapers, which they weave into a torch. These are the torch-bearers of humanity - its poets, seers and saints, who lead and lift the race out of darkness, toward the light. They are the law-givers and saviors, the light-bringers, way-showers and truth-tellers, and without them, humanity would lose its way in the dark.” ~~Plato
Surprises Are More Exciting When They
Are Not Expected
From the beginning, in 1983, it was
Robert who would walk up to perfect
strangers and offer a taste of Camp
Skyler's Special Jelly. Robert would
call this unexpected surprise a "leap of
faith", in that if someone would except
food from a perfect stranger, he and
Rosemarie would reward them by sending a
jar of their product every year between
the Thanksgiving and New Year Holidays. By 1985 Robert And Rosemarie where giving away over 2000 jars a year. They continued their ' Leap Of Faith ' surprise till 2003, when they incorporated, trademarked and copyrighted Camp Skyler, LLC and made their great products available all year.
Robert and Rosemarie still give away, to
unsuspecting strangers, waiters and
waitress, people waiting to see a doctor
in the doctor's waiting room, drivers he
meets at gas pumps and drivers stuck in
traffic jams with him. "No matter how
big a company we become, we will always
be looking to bring a smile and a
surprise to the unsuspecting people we
meet".

Hello.
Buddee passed away this morning at 9 am. He was in no pain or discomfort. Over the last month he'd lost about 5 lb., which is a lot for a 20 LB pup. As he neared the end of his life, he lost his desire for most food, except for ice cream and yogurt. Buddee was more than just a pet. He traveled with us around the United States and was loved and appreciated by everyone who met him.
Buddee was our adopted son and will forever remain in our hearts.

Buddee Skyler - 5/29/91 to 1/19/2005
